Quantum3D THERMITE TVC
Rugged Tactical Visual Computer for wearable or vehicle applications
(by Conrad H. Blickenstorfer)
Quantum3D, located in San Jose, Calif., specializes in open-architecture, realtime computing solutions for industry-specific applications. They do that by packaging industry-standard components with their own image generator technologies, software, and services. The product you see here is a fan-less, ruggedized, sealed, mil-spec COTS PC computer that also supports advanced 2D/3D, I/O, has video capture capabilities, and can run either Windows XP or a variety of Linux distros.
Specifically, the Thermite TVC (TVC stands for "Tactical Visual Computing") is a very compact (4.5 x 6.8 x 2.5 inches, roughly 2.5 pounds) extremely rugged embedded computer ideal for wearable or vehicle-based 2D/3D graphics and video applications. Everything is packaged inside a conduction-cooled, sealed alloy chassis with Mil-Spec connectors. Customers have a choice of a wide variety of processors, disks, solid state memory, connectivity, and advanced audio and graphics capabilities. This is not a conventional handheld computer, but an embedded, super-rugged high-performance computer system for applications such as embedded training, mission rehearsal, weapon system control and deployed C4ISR. An expanded chassis version is available.
