Getac gets the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship revved up for 2019 season

New partnership will see Getac rugged devices replace legacy IT equipment, creating a powerful new solution suited to the rigours of motorsport

Telford, UK — March 25, 2019 — Getac has today announced a new strategic partnership with the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) for its 2019 season, which gets underway on 6th April at Brands Hatch. The deal will see all of BTCC's legacy IT infrastructure replaced with Getac rugged mobile devices, offering seamless efficiency and reliability throughout race control, paddock and pit lane during race weekends and beyond.

Since its inception in 1958, the championship has attracted and captivated millions of fans around the world, with only Formula 1 and America's NASCAR stock car series having longer histories. The 2019 BTCC calendar will see a total of 30 races take place across the UK at iconic circuits including Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Thruxton.

Getac's S410 rugged notebook PCs and A140 rugged tablet PCs will be used to create a new, fully-integrated IT solution running on Microsoft Windows 10, which will power every aspect of the BTCC's behind-the-scenes operations. The devices will be split between race control and track-side, where they will be used for a wide range of operational activities. These include everything from lap timing and regulation compliance to on-board video review, post-race car inspections and accident data management (as part of a joint project with the FIA). BTCC partners, Cosworth and Dunlop, will also use the devices in the monitoring of engine and tyre performance respectively throughout each race weekend.

"Motor racing circuits are harsh environments for IT equipment," said Alan Gow, BTCC Chief Executive. "With Getac's S410 and A140 we have powerful, rugged devices that can not only take a beating, but offer the very latest in technology and mobility, allowing us to run every race weekend seamlessly, both from race control and at track-side."

"Through this new partnership, the BTCC will be able to create a brand new, fully comprehensive racing management, monitoring and control system, powered by Getac and the latest Microsoft Windows 10 technology," says Chris Bye, President of Getac UK. "As a result, BTCC fans everywhere will be able to enjoy the highest quality racing and coverage from one of the most exciting motorsport championships in the world."
