Psion Teklogix NetBook Pro
Clamshell Handheld PC
(by Conrad H. Blickenstorfer)
When we first reviewed the initially EPOC-based netBook in 1999, we were extremely impressed with the performance and the unique design. With very strong specs compared to then-current "Jupiter" Handheld PCs, we imagined a bright future for the netBook as a business/consumer product. After Psion merged with vertical market computing company Teklogix, the netBook morphed into a device for corporate field use. Today, the technologically updated netBook runs Windows CE .NET 4.2 and can also be used as a mobile Java machine for the "professional field workforce." Though not a rugged machine, it is durable enough for most light field applications. Ingenious design, a great keyboard, SVGA display, good performance, and fine touchscreen response continue to make it an interesting alternative, and also a reminder of what the future once was, and what it could have been.
