Rugged, but small and handy flashlight-style handheld

With the RoHS-compatible WorkAbout Pro Psion Teklogix offers a modern flashlight-style handheld computer that combines up-to-date technology with a balance of handy size, low weight, flexibility, and ruggedness. The WorkAbout is considerably smaller than the 7500 Series models and its environmental specs are somewhat lower, albeit still plenty good enough for deployment in harsh field environments.

Like the larger models, the WorkAbout uses a fast Intel PXA255 chip, has plenty of storage capacity, and Psion Teklogix offers numerous configurations and expansion modules/options. This is a handy, economical solution for most field service environments. Bluetooth is integrated; 802.11b, GSM/GPRS and CDMA/1xRTT can be added via CF or the expansion interface. There are also 1D laser scanner and 2D imager expansion modules.

Update October 2007: The WorkAbout Pro is now called the "1st Generation WorkAbout Pro" and remains in the active product lineup next to the "2nd Generation WorkAbout Pro." Psion Teklogix tweaked and upgraded the original Pro in several areas (faster WiFi, more powerful battery, more memory, additional end-cap and expansion modules, etc). Processor and OS are now aging, but the first-gen WorkAbout Pro remains a workhorse, available in the monochrome ME and the color C and S models.
