Trimble GeoExplorer

Rugged GPS Pocket PC
(by Conrad H. Blickenstorfer)

The rugged GeoExplorer CE Series from GPS specialist Trimble combines a Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PC with a WAAS-enabled integrated Trimble GPS receiver. Trimble offers different models: The GeoXM brings real-time corrected GPS info with two to five meter accuracy into GIS applications whereas the GeoXT adds a submeter-accuracy receiver and multipath rejection technology. USB and serial support modules provide communication capability for wired and wireless data transfer. The 3.8-inch display has an anti-glare coating and an extra-strong backlight. The heavily ruggedized GeoExplorer can run GIS software from ESRI, Trimble and others. The GeoExplorer comes with no less than 512MB of Flash, enough for most databases and maps, and Microsoft Streets & Trips 2005 is included.

This version of the GeoExplorer was replaced with updated models. In May 2008, the GeoExplorer 2008 Series was introduced.
