Acer TravelMate C110
The little Tablet PC convertible that started it all (by Conrad H. Blickenstorfer)
Acer was the first company to come up with a notebook convertible Tablet PC when Microsoft began promoting form factors other than just slates for its new XP Tablet PC Edition. The original Acer TravelMate C100 was a very compact little notebook that could be used either as a standard clamshell laptop or, by rotating the display and laying it down flat, as a pen tablet. The C110 is an updated version of the C100 with faster Pentium 733 (1.1GHz) or 753 (1.3 GHz) processors, Intel Centrino technology (including 802.11b/g), more RAM and an external USB DVD/CD-RW drive. Minor nuisances in this handy little notebook include heat buildup and a somewhat loose display hinge. The C110 remains a nice and very compact Tablet PC convertible, but one canÕt help but wonder why Acer didnÕt do more to build on its by now evaporated early lead.
