ViewSonic Tablet PC V1100

Sleek, elegant Tablet PC notebook convertible
(by Conrad H. Blickenstorfer)

ViewSonic is a big name in display technology, and the company has always been proactive in exploring new form factors and platforms.

When the Tablet PC was launched, ViewSonic was there with the Tatung-made V1100 Tablet PC, a workmanlike, albeit not terribly elegant, design made of tough plastic. It didn't break any new technological ground but felt trust-inspiring, and at just 3.4 pounds it was light enough to take anywhere. The portfolio case shown in the picture turns the V1100 into a portfolio-style notebook, and there is an optional desktop dock with a built-in optical drive, additional USB ports and video-out.

The 10.4-inch display was a bit small in the 10 x 11.4 inch device and ViewSonic never much updated the V1100, and you can pick one up for a song as the product line is now discontinued.
