The TREK-743 is a compact, rugged vehicle mount computer designed to provide efficient data capture and real-time communication in applications such as delivery, warehousing, fleet management and logistics. The device measures just 10 x 6.3 inches and is two inches thick, making it easily mountable just about anywhere in a vehicle.
The TREK-743, which is powered by a 500MHz AMD LX800 processor, can run either Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE or Linux. The power-efficient chip means the device does not need a fan or even ventilation holes, making for an IP65-rated waterproof and dustproof front panel and rear cover. Memory configuations depend on the operating system. The device has a single SODIMM slot that can accept up to a gigabyte of SDRAM. An internal CompactFlash Type II socket is used for Flash/solid state disk. A typical WIndows CE implementation includes 128MB of RAM and 128MB of Flash whereas an XP Embedded setup comes with 256MB of RAM and 2GB of Flash.
The unit has a 7-inch diagonal TFT LCD with a strong 400-nit LED backlight. Resolution is 800 x 480 pixel WVGA, and the display has an analog resistive touch screen. Below the wide-format display are five large programmable function keys.
In terms of connectivity, the TREK-743 has two USB 2.0 ports at the bottom, next to two DB-9 RS232 serial ports that also support RS422/485 protocols. There's also an RJ45 LAN jack as well as a DB15 connector for CAN bus and four optically isolated digital input/digital output lines. CAN, or Controller Area Network, is a protocol often used in automotive electronics.
Since it is not meant to be carried around, the TREK-743 does not have an internal battery but can use anywhere from 9 to 36 Volt vehicular DC power. Optional low battery shutdown protection is available.
For wireless communication, the TREK-743 comes standard with Bluetooth Version 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate. Optionally available are 802.11b/g WiFi and quad-band 850/900/1800/1900MHz GSM/GPRS.
For mounting, Advantech offers a variety of RAM mount systems with VESA plates. This is an extremely flexible industry-standard solution.
Thanks to an extremely wide operating temperature range of -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and high resistance to vibration, the rugged TREK-743 vehicle computer can be used in a wide variety of applications.
